Destination Overview
Anthony Quinn Bay is one of the most famous and photographed beaches in Rhodes. The small bay is surrounded by rocky cliffs and green vegetation, creating a dramatic natural setting and protecting the water from strong winds. Because of this natural protection, the sea here is usually calm and incredibly clear.
The bay took its name from the famous actor Anthony Quinn, who visited Rhodes in the 1960s during the filming of the classic war movie The Guns of Navarone. He fell in love with the area and attempted to purchase the land with the idea of creating an international artists’ center. Although this plan never happened, the bay kept his name and remains one of the most iconic spots on the island.
What makes Anthony Quinn Bay especially attractive is the color of the water. The rocky seabed and underwater formations create beautiful shades of turquoise and deep emerald green. The clarity of the water is excellent, which makes the bay one of the best places in Rhodes for swimming and snorkeling.
If you look underwater along the rocky edges of the bay, you may see a variety of Mediterranean marine life. Divers and snorkelers have reported species such as groupers, moray eels, squid and scorpionfish living among the rocks and crevices.
Approaching the bay by boat is a special experience. The steep rocky sides, pine trees, and the clear water create a spectacular setting that is even more impressive when seen from the sea.
